Priyanka and Nick Jonas made headline for Surrogacy – Hers a list of reel and real life supermoms.

Celebrity news is a big thing in India. The attention they get in media is unimaginable; paparazzi pictures and celeb gossips sell huge. That’s how much people shadow celebrities here. They are celebrated, adored and even idolized. I am not even exaggerating!

The recent buzz is the parenthood of Priyanks Chopra and Nick Jonas through surrogacy; and I am sure, not one person is unaware of it here. So, among such crazy celebrity news like airport looks, affairs, box office numbers and star kids follow-up, let’s take inspiration from the good things they inspire, offscreen!

So many celebrities have embraced motherhood, in unconventional ways. And in a country where they can influence greatly, I think such stories have to be re-emphasized among the people.

So let’s talk about that today. Let’s learn from them, break the stereotype and free ourselves from the norms!

Motherhood by IVF!

Revathy

The perfect onscreen mom since the 90s. Her character in Manirathnam’s classic Anjali, moves everyone and is one of the best on-screen portrayals of a mother. After her divorce, she decided to become mother and with the concurrence of her parents, she gave birth to her baby girl at 47, through IVF. The true supermom in reel and real life, Revathy is now enjoying the roller coaster ride of motherhood with baby Mahee.

Moms through adoption!

Sushmitha sen

When we think of adoption, we think of Sushmitha Sen. She broke all stereotypes, becoming the mother of 2 girls by adoption, still being unmarried. She was 24 when she adopted her elder daughter, Renee. Let’s admire how she grew her family as a single woman and proved everyone wrong that you don’t have to be married to become a mother. Furthermore in an interview she said, “When you adopt, you give life to someone. You get to be different. You get to choose a child whose parents abandoned them. Besides, honestly, it is a beautiful feeling to know that you gave life in such a way that you saved one.” Her instagram proves that her children are the center of her world. Cheers to the wonder woman!

Sunny Leone

In 2017, Sunny Leone and her partner, Daniel Weber, adopted a 21-months old Nisha from Latur, Maharashtra. She says “I truly believe that Nisha chose us, we didn’t choose Nisha.” She then gave birth to her twin boys through surrogacy in 2018. She now says her family is ‘complete’.  It’s commendable how she has re-written her life and the headlines are no more about her controversial career choices, but her motherhood journey.

Not just them, Tip Tip Barsa paani sensation Raveena Tandon, South Indian actress/dancer Sobhana, and a few others chose adoption to grow their family. They proved that parenthood requires love, and not DNA. Take superman for example; he is adopted too.

Some celebrities do it differently. Take Preity Zinta gain. She has adopted 34 orphaned girls from the Mother Miracle School in Hrishikesh, on her 34th birthday. What a way to celebrate! “Yes. I have adopted them and will be completely looking after their education, food, clothes etc. It`s an amazing feeling to be part of their lives. I’m going to make it a point to visit them at least twice a year. They are my children, my responsibility now.” Yup, truly vivacious on and off screen!

Actress Hansika Motwani has taken the same route too. Let’s not forget such dads. Rohit Shetty has blown csrs and minds alike by adopting . He is now the provider and caretaker of 10 cancer-ridden children.

Parenthood through surrogacy!

Farah Khan

The Bollywood director/choreographer was blessed with triplets through surrogacy when she was 43 years old in 2008.

“IVF is a blessing and I am really thankful as it has changed my life. A lot of factors today make it difficult for some couples to conceive, but we have solutions in the form of treatments,” Farah said in a statement.

Note it down folks, because it’s not just her, celebs like Sharukh khan, Amir khan,  Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and many others have opted IVF and surrogacy to become parents. And even the movie mimi starring Kriti Sanon, instigates the same message. Brilliant move!

Well, this is definitely not the complete list. But you get the picture right?

Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother” – Oprah Winfrey.

Don’t let society make you believe otherwise. Don’t let anyone shame you for your choice (or) the lack of it. I know such stories are appreciated while reading and not when someone at home lives it. This should change! Let’s make unconventional motherhood, commonplace. March to the beat of your own drums ladies! Take inspiration from your heroes.
